Philosophy of Service

In keeping with Catholic Social Teaching and Judaeo Christian principles, Catholic Charities Atlanta opens its doors to the most vulnerable and most in need from all walks of life. Regardless of race, creed, national origin, socio-economic status or educational background, empowering them to utilize their strengths and resources so as to meet the needs of their families and contribute to their community is a primary goal in social services today. In serving individuals and families, we will reach out with compassion and love.

Catholic Charities Atlanta believes that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. The agency supports a competency-based (strengths-based) approach to working with individuals, families and communities.

Services are provided in an effort to assist clients (individuals, families and/or communities) to better understand their current situation and to “partner” with them to get them through their life challenges. The unique talents and strengths of each client are identified and used to achieve the agreed upon outcome(s).

A basic moral test of any society is how the most vulnerable members are fairing. All services through Catholic Charities Atlanta are rooted in a belief that we exist to serve the needs of our community and to assume our share of responsibility in the welfare of those around us. We continue to answer the call to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. The needs of the community are what drive Catholic Charities in determining the services being offered, where the services should be delivered and who is most in need.

The agency has adopted a service philosophy entitled S.O.A.R. The focus of this philosophy is to work with clients to help them:

S: build and/or strengthen the skills they need;
O: effectively identify and take advantage of available opportunities,
A: address any issues that may be obstacles to their accessing the services they need; and
R: locating and utilizing available community resources.

All of these efforts are carried out with a belief in the dignity of the human person and are aimed at helping individuals and their families become more self-sufficient.
