Refugee Resettlement Services
Refugee Resettlement serves refugees who have been referred to us by our national agency, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). They leave their homes due to political, religious, or social persecution and often spend many years in refugee camps in neighboring countries before they are resettled.
The mission of Refugee Resettlement is to provide the refugees with the tools and support they need to become self-sufficient in the United States within six months. We pick them up from the airport when they arrive in Atlanta, and take them to apartments which have been furnished with donations from families in Atlanta. We place them in apartments that are safe and affordable, and position them in communities with other refugees of their same nationality to provide them with a comfortable, familiar living environment. We work to encourage them and to give them hope of building a new life in Atlanta.
The specific services we provide include:
- Picking them up at the airport upon arrival
- Providing them with housing and all necessary furnishings
- Providing them with food with which they are familiar, including a ready-to-eat meal upon arrival
- Providing them access to health care and vaccines
- Educating them on how to use public transportation
- Applying for Social Security cards and other forms of personal identification necessary in the United States
- Enrolling them in English language classes
- Enrolling the children into school
- Providing them with job readiness education and training
- Assisting them in finding employment
- Other services as needed
