“My immigration situation, once thought to be highly impossible, has finally come to a successful end! What a relief not only for me, but also for my three little girls and fiancé. Legal Orientation Program
With support from the Vera Institute of Justice, CCA attorneys present group legal orientation sessions to thousands of detainees every year at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA and Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, GA. This program is funded by the United States Department of Justice and is intended to improve the immigration court process.
These legal orientation sessions provide comprehensive explanations about immigration court procedures along with other basic legal information to large groups of detained individuals.
Legal Representation for Victims of Violence
CCA serves immigrant women and young children under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Special provisions under VAWA allow abused immigrant spouses, children or parents of U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents to self-petition for their permanent residency without relying on their abusers. CCA staff represents such individuals before USCIS (United States Citizen Immigration Services) and Immigration Court under the VAWA special provisions. Our staff also represents victims of human trafficking, sexual assault and other crimes under the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act.
