Supporting & directing Veteran and Military families to critical services.
Case Management
Georgia is home to 699,322 veterans. In a recent study, 58% of veterans surveyed in Georgia reported experiencing homelessness after their departure from the military. 65% report income less than $20,000 and 71% do not receive income from either pensions or retirement. Reintegrating into civilian life after serving in the military is often an overwhelming experience and many Veterans are unable to secure their benefits independently.
Catholic Charities’ Veteran Case Managers are dedicated to helping Veterans and their families navigate social service systems while securing all the benefits that they are entitled to. Our Veterans are also encouraged to participate in other supportive services that we offer and are taught the skills to maintain their autonomy going forward.
Our Veteran Case Management specialists are veterans or have extensive experience with Veteran issues. Each individual is assessed to see what their immediate needs may be.

Veterans Benefits
Many veterans do not receive VA benefits, as they are unaware of how to access them. Additionally, 86% of veterans do not receive public benefits such as food stamps, even though they are eligible. These numbers show a clear gap in veterans becoming self-sufficient and reintegrating back into civilian life. These stats tell the story as to why so many veterans experience homelessness.
Catholic Charities Atlanta’s staff help Veterans access appropriate public and VA benefits. These benefits help families stabilize their living situation, provide food for their families, and access medical care.
”Catholic Charities Veterans Services weren’t the only agency assisting me during my period of homelessness, but without them my family would not be in a warm, nice, two-bedroom apartment we can call home. I repeat, “my family would not be in a warm, nice, two-bedroom apartment we can call home”, if Catholic Charities Veterans Services had not assisted us. For me, Catholic Charities Chamblee Veterans Services is a God-send and blessing that I cannot express in words. Their assistance was invaluable, immeasurable and possibly life-saving.

We help veterans and their families by providing mental health counseling services or by helping them access VA mental health services.
