Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Catholic Charities Atlanta! Our volunteers are the heart of our programs and services and we are always seeking individuals who are interested in donating their time and talent.

Catholic Charities volunteers serve clients and the community in a number of ways. Whether you’re an individual looking to lend a helping hand or a group seeking a service project you’ve come to the right place.

Current Opportunities

We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities including one-time service opportunities, regular commitment opportunities, internships, and AmeriCorps opportunities. Each volunteer opportunity varies by time commitment and location. Please click on the listings below for more information on our current volunteer opportunities. TUTORING CHILDREN – AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our elementary After School Program (ASP) provides additional academic and social support to 30 second and third grade students at Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston. The students are predominantly from Iraq, Congo, Syria, Burma, Afghanistan, and Somalia and lived in the U.S for less than one year. The program runs every Monday through Thursday during the school year from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM. ASP volunteers assist staff with group activities and targeted skills practices for a commitment of one afternoon per week during the semester.

MENTORING REFUGEE TEENS

The Refugee Youth Mentoring Program pairs a volunteer with a refugee child age 12 to 17 in one-onone, “big brother/big sister” relationships. Mentors and mentees meet weekly in the child’s home or in the community and spend time together working on homework, exploring the city, or trying new things. Most of the refugee families we serve live in Clarkston, Tucker, or Decatur. Volunteer mentors are at least 21 and can commit to meeting with their mentee for at least two hours per week for one year.  

TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) TO ADULTS

Volunteers with a college degree and with excellent English language skills teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults during standardized class sessions.  Students attend classes for 3 hours twice a week for a semester (there are morning and evening classes). Volunteers commit to set a day each week for a semester and teach in-person a group of students.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER- ST. JOSEPH PLACE

An assistant will help staff at a senior retirement community. Volunteer will provide administrative support, including data entry, letter composition, filing, photocopying, faxing, mailing, word processing and other tasks. The volunteer will work approximately 4 hours during the workweek between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

VOLUNTEER CAR INSPECTOR

Volunteer will inspect all eight of CCA’s vehicles once a week. They will be responsible for refilling the gas in each of the cars, taking the cars to a car wash, and evaluating any of the vehicles’ needs. The volunteer will enter the vehicle’s weekly reports in CCA’s database.  This can be done any time Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The volunteer should have experience caring for cars, whether that is professional or personal experience. 

INVENTORY VOLUNTEER

Volunteer will help organize and account for in-kind donations housed at agency warehouse. Volunteer will record (in a database) the quantity of donated items in order to determine donation needs.

The volunteer should be available for 2-4 hours Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. 

TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT

A bilingual (Spanish & English), tech-savvy volunteer will assist the clients in our Safe Passages program to use technological devices such as cellphones and computers. Assist and train clients to use technological services such as email, Zoom, and other platforms. Willingness to teach an internet safety seminar.

ANNUAL EVENTS

Help with our annual events such as: Scott’s Run, Soiree, and Christmas Connections. Positions vary based on occasion and might include: gift enrollment or distribution, organizing auction items, administrative tasks, event set-up and clean-up, and logistics. Opportunities are usually the day of, but may also include pre-event tasks.

ASSEMBLE EVENT INVITATIONS/ORGANIZE AUCTION ITEMS

Assist the Mission Advancement team with the addressing and mailing of event invitations and/or organize auction items.

APARTMENT SETUPS

Help set up an apartment for newly-arrived refugee clients. Assist in moving furniture and household items into apartments, often with short notice. CCA supplies food, furniture, cooking supplies, and personal items such as toys for the children, umbrellas, shoes, and more. By helping with an apartment setup, you are preparing a family’s first home in the United States.The move-in will be approximately 2 hours. You must be comfortable with lifting at least 30 pounds and provide your own transportation.
