Catholic Charities of Atlanta Receives Grant from Nissan Foundation

ATLANTA, GA (June 2023) – Catholic Charities of Atlanta is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a
grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Nissan Foundation. The grant will enable CCA to expand upon our
Refugee Education and Engagement Project.

In our Refugee Services Department, CCA resettles refugees and offers additional supportive services to help
families integrate successfully into their new American communities. Current events and past projects have
shown us that there are still many misconceptions about who refugees are and how they come to the United
States. With Nissan Foundation funds, CCA’s Refugee Education and Engagement Project will help community
members understand refugee situations across the globe, the process of refugee resettlement, and the ways that
refugees benefit our communities.

This grant will allow CCA to extend the Refugee Camp Immersion component of the Refugee Education and
Engagement Project. Through partnering with schools, faith groups, and other community groups to provide a
hands-on mock refugee camp, CCA gives event participants the chance to enter fully into the refugee journey.
Participants walk away with a new understanding of refugees across the globe and of the challenges that their
refugee neighbors in Georgia have endured. CCA promotes a robust engagement component in communities
where previous camp experiences were held and works to maintain these relationships over the course of
multiple years through volunteering and donation opportunities.

Established in 1992, the mission of the Nissan Foundation is to build community through valuing cultural
diversity. The Nissan Foundation is part of Nissan North America’s commitment to “enrich people’s lives” by
helping to meet the needs of communities throughout the U.S. through philanthropic investments, corporate
outreach sponsorships, in-kind donations and other charitable contributions.
